Parachute is a newly released independent homebrew title for the Sega Genesis. The idea is to create a decent facsimile of the classic Nintendo Game & Watch portables. For someone learning how to use the Sega Genesis Development Kit (SGDK) software, they certainly achieved their goal.

Final Shell Shock Sees Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Invade Streets of Rage on Sega Genesis
June 7th, 2020
Carl Williams The Final Shell Shock brings the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) to the world of Streets of Rage. This is an alternate timeline, alternate universe, tale of Streets of Rage 2. That gives the game a bit of leeway to play with. While we are lacking on exactly what details are not canon here, some […]
Data East Saves Mega Turrican on Sega Genesis – June 7th, 1994 – Today in Video Game History
June 6th, 2020
Carl Williams Mega Turrican can be viewed as Turrican 3. This is mainly because it was marketed as such on the Commodore Amiga. On that platform this game was called Turrican 3: Payment Day. Originally planned for release in 1993, Factor 5 would have to wait almost a year for launch. Data East picked up worldwide distribution […]
Mortal Kombat Invades Streets of Rage 2 Part 1
May 30th, 2020
Carl Williams While Streets of Rage 4 is still riding high on fan support, other fans have been keeping an earlier entry alive. Part of that effort is adding new characters to Streets of Rage 2, released on Sega Genesis in the early 1990’s. One of the more interesting hacks I have discovered adds Mortal Kombat characters […]

March 1st, 2020
Carl Williams What would Resident Evil have looked like had Capcom released it on the Sega Genesis? A 16-bit platform that would obviously require a change in perspective – gone would be the 3D polygon enemies and pre-rendered backgrounds. While we may never know what Capcom’s take on survival horror would look like in 16-bits, we can […]

Carl Williams In case you have missed it, Jim Power is back and this time he is coming to more platforms than computers and the Super Nintendo. Piko Interactive have picked up the rights to Jim Power and are hard at work to ensure the franchise sees release on many more platforms than originally planned. One being […]
New Sega Genesis Mode 7 Demo Released
January 20th, 2020
Carl Williams This is a follow up to an article I wrote a while back covering the work of GASEGA68k. What we have here is an effort to bring Mode 7 effects to the Sega Genesis. For those that don’t know, Mode 7 was one of the marketing tools that Nintendo used against Sega at the launch […]
Sega Genesis Akira Prototype Found, ROM Release Hopefully Soon
January 19th, 2020
Carl Williams Akira. The name alone stirs feelings in fans. This classic anime is almost above criticism, much like Pac-Man or Super Mario Bros. The anime was released in 1988 representing the most expensive anime film created up to that point. There was a lot riding on the success of Akira, and it delivered. Fans that are […]
