A classic reborn always awakens deep emotions. From April 15th, 2021, those of you who were not even born in 1998 can experience all the fun of burrowing into this beloved RPG. Improved graphics, additional features, a new main character, and access via Android, iOS, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4. Its birth, in 1997, was all Japanese. On that market, the game was the seventh in the SaGa series, but outside Japan the previous releases had used the Final fantasy brand. Sony Computer Entertainment published the game in North America a year later. That was when the SaGa brand made it to the west on the PlayStation for the first time.
Successful gaming knows no frontiers. Just as you can use All British Casino Bonus Codes wherever you are, so you can explore “The Regions” of SaGa, hopping from world to world. Choose who you want to be among the seven heroes of this fantastic universe. Each one of them has his/her own storyline and goals. SaGa’s “Free Scenario System” means that you will be nearly completely free to go anywhere and interact with anyone. The Regions, aka planets, of this imaginary universe, are well connected by inter-regional ships traveling regularly between them.
Asellus, Blue, Emelia, Lute, Red, Riki, and T260G, the beloved heroes well known to players of the original game, are still here to live, love, and fight in the remake. The newcomer is hard-boiled detective Fuse, who has a different way of functioning. You can only unlock his functionality after playing out all the roles of the others. Fuse’s actions will then provide more insight into their individual storylines.
SaGa’s Free Scenario is a non-linear system that leaves a number of options open. After he has chosen his hero, the player does have a main story objective and missions, but also many side quests. Everyone can decide to follow these secondary storylines and occasionally meet other main characters during his/her travels. The progression of the story is influenced by these multiple choices and players are free to decide which characters they wish to team up with. Decisions made in dialogue options and optional quests can influence the ending. The advantage of this architecture is the richness of possible replays: you can choose a different character and modify individual choices to reach a different outcome.
Unlike other games, SaGa Frontier does not make its characters gain levels, but it does increase their stats after battles. New techniques can be unlocked during combat during “Glimmers”. The more battles they fight, the more powerful the characters become. Their regular enemies improve in the same way, so it can be tricky to evaluate who is winning. The whole system can be a little puzzling to modern players without experience of vintage RPGs, but old fans of SaGa games will love this one. The visuals have been kept in their original PlayStation style but enhanced in HD mode to give proper satisfaction on today’s screens. Autosave and increasing game speed are two additions that make the progression of the game smoother.
All in all, SaGa Frontier Remastered is too good to miss for any true retro gamer.
