Mario Party 2 is a multiplayer party game that takes advantage of the Nintendo 64 hardware. Namely the four players at once capabilities. This allowed Hudson Soft, the developers, a lot of freedom in how the Mario Party line of games play. Even if you do not have three friends to play with you can still enjoy this title. Additional characters that are needed for each mini game are controlled by the computer. In classic Nintendo fashion, there is tons of little touches here.
Mario Party 2 continues multiplayer fun
There are five different boards, each with their own theme, available when first starting. A sixth board is available later in the game. Players can choose between six characters – Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Wario, Princess Peach, and Donkey Kong. Par for the course this lineup changes between subsequent games.
Games are offered in three types of play. Lite; 20 turns, Standard; 35 turns, and Full; 50 turns. While some of the mini games are short, a full game can be just the opposite. The mini games may be short affairs but when you are looking at 50 turns of them, it can become grating.
Nintendo party board games are unique
This is a Mario game so you should already know coin collecting is involved somewhere. This occurs on the board and in some mini games. There are floating boxes to bust, enemies to avoid, etc.
Mario Party 2 is what Monopoly might look like if Nintendo owned it.
Each player takes turns are progressing across the board. Mini games usually require one player to mess up the others to win. This is just the competitive nature of board games. Here there is a Nintendo flair to the proceedings.
