Nine Inch Nails did the soundtrack for Quake way back in 1996. This helped set that seminal release apart from what little competition it had. Those that has the proper sound setup could blast enemies in Quake to some great tunes. Just like how Quake was pushing 3D hardware accelerators, it was also putting sound at the forefront of PC gaming.
NIN continues to reinvigorate industries
While it is not 100% on the shoulders of Nine Inch Nails, the revival of vinyl records is going strong. Recently it was noted that vinyl outsold CD’s in the first half of 2020. This broke a record that has held since the 1980’s. Gamers are a supportive bunch, second only probably to anime fans. Gamers buy action figures, comics, clothing, accessories for their computers/consoles, and more. Releasing the Quake soundtrack on vinyl just sounds too good an opportunity to pass up.
My first Quake soundtrack experience
I remember going to Electronics Boutique in a local mall when Quake was released. They had setup a computer with huge stereo speakers or something connected. As I was walking down the walkway passing jewelry, shoe, etc. stores, I started to hear this rock music getting louder.
When I realized it was coming from my destination, I hurried a bit. Upon reaching the store, I saw the first time they sat up a PC for display since the days of Doom.
I arrived just before they got another phone call from someone working for the mall. They were told to turn the music down or remove the speakers as it was becoming a nuisance.
I knew at that moment I was hooked on Quake and it started with the soundtrack.
Getting the soundtrack on vinyl
You can visit the official Nine Inch Nails store and secure your copy of the Quake soundtrack. Might want to get it now before it is scalped on eBay or Amazon.
