Lunar Eternal Blue Continues Epic Sega CD RPG – September 15th, 1995 – Today in Video Game History

Lunar Eternal Blue Sega CD Lucia

Lunar Eternal Blue takes fans 1,000 years into the future from the events of the previous game. Hiro is the lead with Lucia, who is from the far-away Blue Star, joining him. Lucia must stop the evil Zophar from destroying the world. It is not going to be an easy adventure. Those that have completed this journey often remember it to this day. What will you do?

Lunar Eternal Blue gave fans more

This sequel was done right. Fans got more of what made the first entry a success. There are longer animated cutscenes, better voice acting, and more detailed graphics and sound. Working Designs were on top of their game with this entry.

If only they had not crippled gamers with that horrible save setup.

Yep, Working Designs saw fit to mess with how you save your progress in Lunar Eternal Blue. Basically, magic points are used to save. Not only that, you must have Hiro’s level times 15 magic points to save.

I can live with the, now, dated pop culture, political references, etc. That save system is what hurts deep down.

Packaging was over the top

Not to mention the PlayStation re-release in 1998, the Sega CD edition of Eternal Blue was packaged beautifully. The manual, which doubles as the cover for the game, is embossed and features some use of foil coating. Anyone that remembers comic books of this time will remember foil embossed covers. Those fans probably hate it too.

Unlike the comic book industry, Working Designs did not attempt to milk fans here. There is only one version of Lunar Eternal Blue available for Sega CD.

Re-releases and where to get it now

Working Designs would bring over the Sony PlayStation version of Lunar The Silver Star Complete and Eternal Blue Complete. Considering they had severed ties with Sega, fans owning a Saturn were left out on that version.

Both eBay and Amazon have the various Lunar games available. Pick your platform and head over to buy it.
