Fan Creates Streets of Rage Demo for Commodore Amiga

Streets of Rage Commodore Amiga

Streets of Rage was never ported to the Commodore Amiga. I do not believe it was ported to any computer platform back in the day. I know later Sega released it on PC via compilation packs but those used emulation. A fan over on the English Amiga Board forums has created a demo of SoR on Commodore Amiga.

Fans do what Sega doesn’t

Okay, not as catchy as the catchphrase we know from Sega. I promise to only say stuff like that sparingly.

Brick Nash, an aspiring amateur programmer, created this demo for Streets of Rage using Amos Pro 2.0. For those unaware, Amos is a programming language. It is BASIC for those wondering. Like IntyBASIC for Intellivision or Batari BASIC for Atari, among others. Amos can trace its roots back to 1990 – man that was a long time ago.

As mentioned, Brick Nash is not a professional programmer. That just makes what he has been able to accomplish even more impressive here.

Streets of Rage on Amiga currently a demo

Work continues for this port of Streets of Rage to the Amiga, but it may never actually be finished. What is on display so far in the forums is impressive.

Brick Nash is planning to add new moves to the game as well. He also mentioned that if/when finished he would call it “Road of Anger”. Considering Sega’s track record with independent homebrew work, this one might make it across the finish line.

What is great about the development of Streets of Rage for Amiga is the community help. Other forum members are helping with the source code, fixing errors, and offering overall improvements. Things like that are amazing.

Hopefully, Sega does not pull out a Cease and Desist on this one. MGM recently did just that on Goldeneye 25 and it is unfortunate for fans.
