Goonies Inspired Gooninuff for Intellivision Sees New Alpha Release

Gooninuff Intellivision Goonies

Gooninuff seems to pull inspiration the classic 1980’s movie, The Goonies. Well, the games that were released using the popular license anyhow. Gooninuff is a new upcoming title for the Intellivision that captures the Goonies feel. 2D side scrolling action platform fans will be right at home here.

It is not all that often that we get 2D side scrolling action games anymore. In the late 80’s and early 90’s this genre ruled the roost so to speak. Maybe it was the limitations of the hardware of the time.

Gooninuff is at home with 80s fans

So far, Gooninuff looks interesting. The graphics are clean yet detailed. Enemies are clearly visible as well. That is a must for an action platform title. There are no background graphics to speak of. That is norm for the hardware though. Backgrounds did not really begin capturing detail until the Nintendo Entertainment System came along. Before that, most action platform games had simple black backgrounds.

That leaves the foreground graphics room to shine. Shine they do in Gooninuff on the Intellivision.

Enemies, levels, and more want you dead

Each level in Gooninuff features several screens for you to beat. You are not only going to have to fight off creatures but avoid level challenges as well. Water drains randomly open, poisonous water drips from the ceiling, and weighted objects fall. Working through each screen in each level requires figuring out the right process.

Just going at each screen head on is going to end quickly with a game over screen.

You are not helpless

You can obviously move around the level as one form of defense. Punching is an offensive method of defense you have available. Jumping is another method of avoiding enemies. You will need all those moves as you explore these underground levels.

Collecting the keys and objects in each level will let you rescue your friends that are captured. Punch skeletons, skulls, bats and more on your quest to get out alive. Maybe, if you are good, you can survive and even do it with some gold in your pocket.
