Maid of Sker is one of those unique horror titles that we see from time to time. For one, this is based on folklore from 1898. That gives the game an instant “real” feel that makes it quite uneasy. While we all know folklore is not always reliable, there is some truth to it. Sometimes that truth is what gets under our skin. Visually, Maid of Sker has that “under your skin” feel as well. This is one creepy, eerie, game. Are you up for the challenge?
Maid of Sker has connections to reality
Based on Welsh folklore, Maid of Sker tells the story of Elisabeth Williams. Set in 1898 in Sker Hotel, you are at a severe disadvantage against the supernatural creatures you face.
Your only defense is a defensive sound-device.
Maid of Sker is a first-person view horror game. This limits your field of vision quite a bit. Most horror titles go for third-person view which gives a lot of visual stimuli. First-person view forces you to play direct – no sneaking views by peering around corners. You know what I mean, the tactic of manipulating the camera to give you a better view.
Almost defenseless
Yep, you are limited to blowing ear drums as your only defense here. That may sound like you are totally S.O.L. but in that limitation is the beauty of the experience.
It is not possible to fight back outside that sound device. Good luck.
Features to look for
Maid of Sker has a myriad of cool things to look for –
- 3D sound-based AI system as the core survival mechanic.
- A chilling story inspired by Welsh folklore fusing psychological, gothic and British horror.
- Realistic visuals featuring 4k uncapped on PC (1080p 60fps minimum) and enhancements on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.
- Re-imagining of famous Welsh hymns Calon Lân (A Pure Heart), Suo-Gân (Welsh Lullaby) and Ar Hyd Y Nos (All Through the Night) from the spine-chilling voice of Tia Kalmaru.
Will you be taking a horror vacation to Sker Hotel?
