Antipole DX Eyeing PlayStation 4 Xbox One and Steam Release (Corrected)

Antipole DX PlayStation Switch Xbox Steam

Antipole DX is a remake of an earlier title that saw release on Nintendo DSiWare, Xbox Live Indie Games, and PC. The originally game was released in 2011. Fast forward to today and we see the remake coming to more modern platforms. This is a gravity defying 2D side scrolling action game. Fans of the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) game Metal Storm will feel right at home.

Antipole DX defies gravity

While this is a 2D side scrolling action game, Antipole DX gives you run of the floor and ceiling. Becoming adjusted to this gravity mechanic is integral to beating the game.

Saturnine Games certainly have a unique mechanic going here. Other than Metal Storm on the NES I cannot think of another game that uses gravity like this. Sure, there are games that have one or two levels with swapped gravity. The difference is, in those games, you are not in control of gravity. In this game you are.

The gravity control mechanism can be used to solve puzzles, and cause trouble. Make sure to pay attention to the whole screen. Swapping gravity fields in the wrong area can cause more trouble than expected.

Beautiful pixels

Antipole DX, graphically, is right in the 16-bit era. That means pixels, beautiful pixels, and sprites. Things blow up like they should, with just enough fanfare to keep it satisfying.

If you are like me, sprite-based games are just more interesting. There is something about them that reminds me of a simpler time. Maybe because I was gaming on Pong systems up to modern platforms.

If you miss the 16-bit days of action adventures, then Antipole DX should be on your radar.

Update – June 22nd, 2020 (6 pm CST) – We mistakenly billed Antipole DX as coming to the Nintendo Switch. It is not coming to that platform. We apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused.

Antipole DX by Saturnine Games
Genre – 2D side scrolling, action, adventure
Rated – The original was E for Everyone
