Survival Horror Monstrum Brings Boat Scares to Nintendo Switch Xbox One PlayStation 4

Monstrum PlayStation 4 Xbox One Nintendo Switch Steam

Monstrum takes survival horror to one location that few have. A boat. Sure, there have been a few survival horror games to do this but not many. I believe one of the Resident Evil games has a boat level/area. Blue Stinger on the Sega Dreamcast had a boat level/area as well. As far as I know, Monstrum is one of the first survival horror games to be completely on a boat. What a horrifying situation to face.

Monstrum strands you at sea

Your job in Monstrum is to escape an abandoned 1970’s era cargo ship. As with most abandoned ships, and the reason I would probably be found dead in this situation, you are not alone. There is apparently a monster on board with you. Not just any monster, this creature is actively scouring the ship looking for you.

Just shoot me now. Seriously, as if being stranded at sea in an abandoned boat was not enough. Monstrum throws a creature your way.

Creating new horrors each play

Monstrum features procedurally generated rooms and pathways. This means that each time you play, you can expect a new game. A familiar but new game that is.

Not only are the levels randomly created but so is which monster you face. That is right, there are multiple creatures and you randomly get one. Talk about adding extra stress.

Did I mention that each monster features unique attributes? Some may be more powerful but slow. Others may be more cunning and fast. No matter what, you are in trouble.

Stealth plays a role

You can hide, distract, and run to your heart’s content. The monster is coming, and you only have one attempt to escape. Die and it is time to start a new game with new layouts and potentially a new monster. Survival horror is a popular genre as you can see here.

Talk about incentive to not fail.
