Ion Fury Brings 90’s First Person Shooter to PlayStation 4 Xbox One Nintendo Switch

Raise your hand if you remember 3D Realms First Person Shooters (FPS). Get ready because Ion Fury is not only a call back to the 90’s, it uses the same tech. Yep, you read that right, the Build Engine has been ported to modern consoles like the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. That allows the female protagonist here to challenge the king. Is there now a Queen to hail?

Ion Fury is dystopian futuristic

The city of Neo D.C. has been taken over by a cyber cultist army. Using violence and terrorism the city fell rather easily. This forces the hand of the Global Defense Force to bring in their heavy hitter, Shelly “Bombshell” Harrison. Considering Harrison has spilled her drink over the sudden interruption, she now has stake in the fight.

Just know this, things blow up good in Ion Fury.

Old tech, new game

The Build Engine is an old one. This was the engine that powered the original Duke Nukem 3D. A few other titles were powered using this engine, not many though.

“We couldn’t be more excited to bring this classic FPS into the hands of console players worldwide. Ion Fury is a perfect example of how the beloved features of ‘90s shooters blend together with modern technology to provide a unique experience,” said Nikolay Baryshnikov, CEO of 1C Entertainment. “Being a fan of the old-school classic FPS games since my childhood, I have been personally waiting patiently for this day to come, and I am very sure every other fan of this genre feels the same!”

The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions run at 60 Frames Per Second (FPS). Ion Fury was already available on Steam for PC’s.

For old school FPS fans like myself, a new entry like Ion Fury is right up my alley. For more First Person Shooters, check these articles out.
