Castle Kong is a homage to the classic Nintendo arcade game, Donkey Kong. Just look at the video after the jump for proof of that. Drowning Monkeys Games are playing up to the whole “kill screen” thing. They intentionally put one in and if you find it, you can win $5,000. Not bad for playing a game on your Nintendo Switch or PC via Steam.
Castle Kong calls back to classics
The big difference between Castle Kong and Donkey Kong is, dying a lot is a staple. Sure, we all died in our quest to defeat the giant monkey. Here though, it is a different matter. Fall one platform, die. Touch an enemy, die. Miss a jump, die. See the pattern here?
Billed as a love letter to the golden era of arcade gaming, Castle Kong is graphically set in a more recent era. There are 22 levels available spread across four different stages. You start with three lives in your quest for that valuable kill screen.
“I wanted to make a game that was easy to understand, but impossible to beat,” says Drowning Monkeys founder Josh Chudnovsky. “Roughly 37 years after the launch of Donkey Kong in 1983, only 100 or so people had ever actually reached the kill screen on the original hardware. That’s amazing.”
About that bounty
$5,000. Yep, you read that right. Reach the kill screen in Castle Kong first and you could win some serious cash. Do not worry, if you are not the first to reach the kill screen. There will be cash prizes for the top 10 high scores posted by September 5th, 2020. The $5,000 bounty is apparently available till June 5th, 2021 so you have time.
