Bloodstained Receives New Character Update

Bloodstained Ritual of the Night Xbox PlayStation Switch

Bloodstained Ritual of the Night is a rare success story that hyped fans before its release. Fans of Koji Igarashi know who he is while others are going “huh” right now. Maybe you have played a little game called Castlevania Symphony of the Night? Yep, Igarashi was heavily involved in the creation of that seminal entry. Long story short, he is now owner of his own company making games. Bloodstained Ritual of the Night being one. There is now a free update available that brings a new character to the battle. This update brings more than just a new character.

Bloodstained gave fans fun

While not perfect, Bloodstained was an awesome entry in the genre. Why wouldn’t it be? Igarashi was one of the key players in creating the genre as we know it today.

Fans of 2D side scrolling action adventures know this game already. I miss the 2.5D PlayStation and Sega Saturn style side scrollers. That is probably one reason I gravitated towards Bloodstained in the first place. They just do not make games like this anymore.

Update adds new character, options

This latest update for Bloodstained features a new character as well as new options. First that character, his name is Zangetsu. Armed with a katana sword and a few physical improvements, he is a new way to play. Playing as Zangatsu means no consumables, no extra equipment, and no treasure chests and such. Yep, this is going to be a test of your skills for sure.

This update also adds a “randomizer” mode. Enabling this mode will shuffle various aspects of Bloodstained. While it is not a brand-new game or new levels, you will encounter things in different places. This is a great test of your skills as you never know what is coming next.

How to get Zangetsu

Unlocking Zangetsu is easy. Just beat Bloodstained. Seriously. Okay, you got me, there is more to it than that. You must get at least the “Good Ending”. That means you will have to be at least moderately skilled to earn this new character.

The update is freely available for Microsoft Xbox One, Sony PlayStation 4, and Windows. Nintendo Switch players will have to wait till later this month to enjoy this update. No word on if Zengatsu will be added to the Nintendo 3DS entry.

Do not have a PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch and want to rock Bloodstained? Click those links and grab a deal on eBay – those are affiliate links that cost you nothing extra. They do help keep the lights on around here though. We have your back if you cannot get enough 2D action.
