Defeat Coronavirus with Covid-19 Game on Atari 2600

Covid-19 Game Atari 2600

It is no secret that Coronavirus, aka Covid-19, is gripping the world right now. It sucks for everyone, especially those afflicted with it. A programmer has taken the Space Invaders game on Atari 2600 and remixed it. Covid-19 game is the result. What was once aliens is now the Coronavirus. The goal is the same – destroy it all before it reaches the bottom of the screen.

Bringing fun to a serious situation

Hacking a several decade old game won’t solve the problem. It will take our minds off the situation for a moment. That is exactly what Covid-19 the game is meant to do. Take your mind off the situation for a bit.

Covid-19 game based on classic

Space Invaders was a classic worth playing if you have not yet. It is worth replaying as a reminder of simpler times. This Covid-19 game is either a hack of that classic or a close homage. I am betting it is a hack. I have no problem with that, I have covered plenty of Streets of Rage hacks here.

Play and controls of the Covid-19 game

Covid-19 game plays just like Space Invaders. The letters spell out “Corona” and then “Virus” with a bug on the end. The enemies alternate between the two words as they cross the screen.

Each time the enemies reach either side of the screen they advance one spot down. Once they reach your barriers you lose those defenses. As with Space Invaders, those barriers will take damage and eventually be useless from firepower hitting them. You can also blast a hole through the barriers as needed for strategic purposes.

A fun distraction for a short period

I am not saying you will get hours of enjoyment out of this Covid-19 game. It is a nice distraction and something that we will eventually look back on as a reminder of a serious situation. It is free so grab a copy here and just play it.
