Unless you have been living under a rock lately, you know about the launch of Doom Eternal. If not, it just occurred on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (Steam for instance). This latest release in the franchise is a return to its roots somewhat. Twitch gameplay, stuff explodes nicely, and there is challenge around every corner. What more could a Doom fan want? How about a brand-new level in Doom 64 that connects it with Doom Eternal?
Doom Eternal the sequel we all wanted
Doom Eternal is the direct sequel to 2016’s Doom. The main character, Doom Slayer, was teleported to an unknown place after Doom, now two years later, he has returned. Taking control of Doom Slayer players are tasked with cleaning up a hell torn Earth. Luckily you are not coming back empty handed as you have an arsenal at your disposal.
Connections with Doom 64
Taking up the challenge to connect a new release to a title from several decades’ prior is a monumental task. Id Software Doom Eternal Director Hugo Martin was up to the task as Doom 64 was his first experience with the franchise. You might the classic First-Person Shooter (FPS) stuck with him.
According to IGN who talked with Martin:
“I genuinely think DOOM 64 is my favorite, having played them all… We replay them, all of us, at the beginning of development… always,” Martin continued. “I’m constantly revisiting all of them, just to spot-check and play it again… make sure you keep your finger on the pulse of what really makes a good DOOM game. So they’re all very familiar to everyone on the team.”
Doom Eternal was in good hands
It is quite clear that the development team for this latest Doom entry were fans of the franchise. Check out the new level in the video above and let us know what you think of it in the comments below.
