The official sequel to WrestleFest, an arcade game from 1991, RetroMania is making waves in the gaming community. Recently they opened pre-orders for the PC and Nintendo Switch edition. Now Retrosoft Studios have confirmed at least one new match type players can compete in.
Classic wrestling action
It is probably safe to say you will not be having any “superkick parties” in RetroMania. The action is decidedly classic style focused on action and painful looking moves. Anyone that remembers WrestleFest will probably remember the frantic button mashing as you tried to overpower your opponent.
Get ready because that is the type of action RetroMania brings.
Wrestlers can make or break a game and RetroMania has some great ones on the roster already. Johnny Retro (John Morrison currently in WWE), Tommy Dreamer (ECW original and legend), The Legion of Doom (or Road Warriors depending on where you saw them), and many others are here. More are coming via downloadable content (DLC).
A few I know about are going to rock RetroMania hard.
New match types
Much like the athletes showcased are important, so are the matches they can compete in. Afterall, no one wants to play a game where you just look at wrestlers posing. Do they?
The traditional one-on-one and tag matches are expected to be included in RetroMania. Those are staples, can’t have much of a wrestling game without them.
Along with those classic match types fans can expect the classic double team option, this one is more of a stipulation. This was something lightly touched upon in WrestleFest. Hopefully Retrosoft Studios will expand on this a bit giving us a little more freedom.
The main match type I am interested in is the return of “Big Blue”. Anyone that watched WWE (back then WWF) will surely remember this steel cage monstrosity. It earned that nick name because, well, it is big, and it was blue. It was obviously painful to be in, it just hurt looking at it.
