The Evercade handheld is developing into quite the handheld to own. This is especially true if you want to support official releases of classic titles on newer platforms. The latest announcement is a cartridge featuring 17 Atari Lynx games. No, Batman Returns is not included. Sorry.
Variety is the spice of life
There are many genres represented on this cartridge. Sports, action, adventure, puzzle, etc are all represented. What we are not going to see on these compilations are titles like California Games or Double Dragon mainly because of licensing.
We do get titles like Basketbrawl, Awesome Golf, Dracula the Undead (very underrated), Gordo 106, Crystal Mines II: Buried Treasure, and more.
Decent lineup, could have been better
While it is easy to sit here and complain about the lineup, true it could have been better, I won’t do that. What we are getting here are some solid sports titles, an underrated adventure game, a couple of good action games, and a few decent puzzle games.
The price on these cartridges is about $20 so depending on the number of, and which, games your interest may vary. The upcoming Atari Lynx cartridge brings each game down to about $1.18 per game. Not bad when you look at it that way.
Even if you only like 4 or 5 of the games, that is still about on par for what Nintendo charges for games from this era on the Nintendo Switch eShop. Again, not all that bad.
Where to get Evercade
Well, you need an Evercade handheld first. Then you need the Atari Lynx cartridge. Total this will set you back about $100 as of the writing of this article. Keep in mind, you can then purchase other cartridges featuring a ton of other classic games, such as the Piko Interactive cartridge (20 games – Water Margin, 8-Eyes, Top Racer, Switchblade, and many more).
