If you are not familiar with RetroMania Wrestling then boy are you in for a treat. This is being billed as the official sequel to the classic WrestleFest arcade machine from 1991. What is awesome about RetroMania Wrestling is just how far they are taking this beyond “just a sequel” and that is what gives it so much charm. The team behind this are clearly fans of wrestling, that is quite clear.
Taking ques from the original and improving
The original game featured World Wrestling Federation (now WWE) stars such as Hulk Hogan, “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase, Big Boss Man, The Ultimate Warrior, Jake “The Snake” Roberts (but no Damien), Mr. Perfect, Sgt. Slaughter, and finally tag teams Demolition. The non-player selectable boss team was the Legion of Doom – Hawk and Animal.
That is a stacked lineup to say the least
Building on that idea, Retrosoft Studios have built a stacked roster, and are adding to it (some wrestlers will be downloadable content after release). The Legion of Doom are back, this time they are joined by ECW Originals such as Tommy Dreamer, The Blue Meanie, Big Stevie Cool and Hollywood Nova (Simon Dean to WWE fans). Don’t blink though because you may miss the current (as of this writing) National Wrestling Alliance World Champion, Nick Aldis who is joined by Johnny Retro (John Morrison, Johnny Impact, etc), Cult Cabana, Austin Idol, Zack Sabre Jr., Warhorse, and Jeff Cobb. More will be added later, there is one long time working tag team that I know is coming.
Then on top of all that, they have even added the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) studio to the game. How freaking cool is that? Seriously, that is cool.
All is not perfect
First, there are not going to be physical editions of RetroMania Wrestling. When pre-ordering on the Retrosoft Studios website, you can choose a “deluxe” edition for Nintendo Swith and PC that will include a case with artwork and a manual. RetroMania Wrestling will remain a downloadable game only for the foreseeable future.
