Intellivision Amico Astrosmash Gameplay Footage Released

Astrosmash Intellivision Amico

Astrosmash is getting a re-release on the Intellivision Amico console. Fans might be familiar with the Atari 2600 port called Astroblast. With the new Intellivision console comes reminders of games from yesteryear. Much like what fans wanted to see from other console makers, Intellivision are seemingly doing it. Classics getting re-imagined on the new platform with better graphics and sound effects.

Remembering their roots

One thing that has been at the base of the Intellivision Amico has been remembering the roots of the company. Leading the charge is Tommy Tallarico and a dedicated team of industry veterans that have many industry accolades to their names.

Astrosmash is one of the first titles to be shown off with any real length of video footage. We have seen other classics re-imagined and shown in shorter clips over the last year or so since I last covered the Amico.

Old with a new coat of paint

The original Astrosmash was a single screen affair, as were many games of the time. Simple graphics coupled with solid gameplay were the norm. Keep watching the embedded video above though and you will see updated Astrosmash footage as it will allegedly running on the Intellivision Amico platform.

Giant rocks, both flaming and normal, fall from the top of the screen and at angles as UFO’s fly around attempting to assault the player at the bottom of the screen. Pretty much the same game that fans enjoyed several decades ago.

Astrosmash on the Intellivision Amico looks amazing in the demo shown. There is a variety of everything – different rocks, different UFO’s, varied weapons, and then there is the background.

While the original Astrosmash appeared to be a single screen affair, the Amico version features a slowly scrolling, and zooming, screen full of action.

It is a subtle effect but it is quite neat to see in motion. It gives Astrosmash that little extra touch.

Want to collect some original Intellivision games while you wait for the release of the Amico later this year? We know you like deals so score something on eBay or grab a deal on Amazon. Either way, you are sure to enjoy the Intellivision platform.
