Castlevania Becomes Intellivania by Fan

Intellivania Castlevania Intellivision

Who doesn’t like Castlevania? This is a title that is a classic in gaming history with tons of fans. There are not many platforms that Castlevania has not graced with its presence. Of those platforms that missed out, we can soon remove the Intellivision. A fan is working on a port of Castlevania to the forgotten Mattel console aptly named Intellivania.

Bandit Gaming at its finest

Bandit Gaming is a nod to a site we ran for awhile years ago called Video Game Cowboys. Whenever we would talk about a game that was unofficial, basically for all intents and purposes “illegal”, we would refer to it as “Bandit Gaming”.

That is what we have here with Intellivania. It is not going to stop me from talking about it though. Konami still owns and uses the name Castlevania, including the design of the original game.

Imitation is the best form of flattery

The latest video for Intellivania that has been released shows off some of level 5. In the video we get to see many different enemies, normal skeletons, the dreaded red skeleton that comes back to life, the little hopping creatures I hated, and axe throwing knights. We also see whip improvements being collected as well as hearts hidden in candle sticks.

Intellivania looks like an impressive fan port. The backgrounds are quite detailed. Gates, skulls, several types of bricks, staircases, and even flickering candle sticks.

While the enemies and main character lose a lot of detail in the transition from the Nintendo Entertainment System to the Intellivision, everyone is recognizable. The key parts are there and there is enough detail to know where to whip and where to avoid. What else do you really need?

Close but not perfect

According to Matthew Kiehl in the description section for this latest video, we will not be seeing a few things in Intellivania. Namely, no weapon multipliers (should make some bosses more difficult), secret treasures connected to a timer and kneeling/waiting are out, and enemies won’t randomly drop items.

Small concessions to be made for such a gaming feat that Intellivania represents.

Show Mr. Kiehl some support by giving his channel a subscribe, videos a like, and if you have time a cool comment. Stuff like that goes a long way in showing support for projects like this.

I mean that is really pretty cool to be-able to do that, but I was never an intellivion fan nor a fan of the controller unless your playing on the intellivision two console.
