Super Mario 64 Land Romhack Combines Two Great Mario Games

Super Mario 64 Land

Super Mario 64 is probably above reproach at this point. It is a classic and that is that. While it is tough to improve upon a classic, one rom hacker has done just that. How? By combining Super Mario 64 with another great Mario game, Super Mario 3D Land from the Nintendo 3DS platform. The result is rather interesting, and Nintendo is already aware of it and acting against people posting gameplay videos to YouTube.

Super Mario 64 already rocked

True. That was a great release and Nintendo knocked it out of the park at a time when it was greatly needed. While Super Mario 64 was obviously great, it is always fun to revisit these classics with new takes on levels, and in the case of Super Mario 64 Land, completely new challenges and levels.

What is new in Super Mario 64 Land

Here is a run down of what is new thanks to DSOGaming.com:

32 new levels
70 different areas
75 music tracks
8 new bosses
10 new powerups

Whew, that is a lot of new content in this rom hack. This is literally a new game for most intents and purposes.

Things will feel familiar but different when playing this rom hack.

Nintendo already knows about it

As mentioned already, Nintendo is already acting against YouTube content creators who are posting vids of Super Mario 64 Land. This is unfortunate but it is their right to do so. That is why I am including this link to search results on YouTube in case the embedded video above is taken down (I am not known for being quick on editing these articles unless it is brought to my attention).

This rom hack shows that what could be accomplished if Nintendo would do more than just re-release classic games on modern platforms while charging a premium. Hire some rom hackers and let them loose with the game to create something new and offer that as well. I am sure they would find sales might improve as hardcore fans want a new experience with old friends.

I know I enjoy these hacks (just look at the Streets of Rage 2 hacks I feature), how about you? What is your favorite hack?
