Resident Evil Remaster Version Released by Fan

Resident Evil Director's Cut Dual Shock

Capcom are known for their re-releasing of titles on the same platform (not to mention re-releasing again on newer platforms). Just look at how many Street Fighter 2 versions were released on the Super Nintendo or Resident Evil on the original PlayStation. That second franchise is the topic of this article. I wanted to do this one for awhile now because I used to be a hardcore Resident Evil fan. Also, it is not all that often I get to write up hacks of PlayStation games.

Origins of survival horror

Resident Evil is often credited as being the first survival horror title. I disagree but that is a different article. Capcom knew they were onto something with this release and it showed. Too bad the original release was censored a bit and then the Director’s Cut was mistakenly censored yet again via the omission of various pieces content.

Fighting zombies never looked as good as it did in Resident Evil. Classic horror tropes were in place left and right. Too little health, too little ammunition, not able to see very much of your surroundings, etc. It was all here.

Capcom did good with Resident Evil.

Fans continue to improve a classic

As mentioned already, I don’t get to write up many PlayStation hacks. I believe this is my first one, well for Retro Gaming Magazine. I did interview the fans that engineered and developed the fan translation for Policenauts on the PlayStation years ago (RGM was not yet created at that point). The interview is in our second, and currently last, issue if anyone is interested in reading it.

What this hack does is take the cutscenes from Resident Evil Remaster/Remake (I believe the GameCube was the first platform that got that one) and put them in the PlayStation game. You will need a copy of the USA version of Resident Evil: Director’s Cut Dual Shock to apply this patch to.

Once you do that you not only get the better cutscenes, you also get some new skins for Jill Valentine. Those skins are available once you beat the game of course.

Head over to Romhacking.net to grab the patch file. If you need a copy of Resident Evil: Director’s Cut Dual Shock then check out eBay or Amazon.
