Project Blue Hitting Kickstarter This Month

Project Blue Nintendo NES Kickstarter

Another day, another Kickstarter for a new Nintendo Entertainment System game. The thing is, every so often they are more than worth the time spent covering them. I believe that is what we have here with Project Blue. This is a new action game that has a serious Batman on NES vibe.

How Project Blue is like Batman for NES

Let’s address that claim. First, the shadowing effect is strong here, much like it was in that Sunsoft classic. Colors are used in great contrast to create unique rooms that make it easy to remember where you are, or where you are going after dying.

Even though there is use of bright colors here and there, Project Blue has a serious dark feel to the graphics.

Enemies are out to kill you; some stay in their lane while others do their best to make your life a living hell.

Jumping, lots of jumping

Project Blue appears to feature a lot of jumping. From platform to platform or over enemies. There is jumping aplenty here.

That means you are not required to defeat every enemy in your way. You can avoid many if you time your jumps correctly. Another way to avoid enemies is to study the room. Some rooms have more than one path through them.

Not a scroller, bummer

I am not all that big a fan of single screen affairs like Solomon’s Key. I prefer some scrolling to my action. Single screen affairs often have blind jumps into the next room.

These blind jumps can result in unfair hits by enemies. This is unfair and makes these games artificially tougher. Just not good level design.

How you can get Project Blue

According to our friends over at Indie Retro News, Project Blue will be seeking funding on Kickstarter sometime this month. If you check the developers Twitter account, you will see steps are being made for physical copies. That is great news, I hope they cover digital as well like Rollie, another Kickstarter NES release, did.

Get ready with a Nintendo NES flashcart from eBay or Amazon (unless you prefer physical copies with the artwork).

You can see that we have taken the uttermost care to make the flick-screen action enjoyable. You will never be “ambushed” by enemies moving forward to the next screen. We wanted to make this game as skill-based as possible.
