Most reading this know what Kicsktarter is, a platform for those with talent, or a product, but no money can meet fans with money and get funded. The retro gaming scene is one that has flourished with the increase in popularity of these “crowd funding” services. Rollie by Optovania is one such upcoming title that has already smashed its goal a few times over. Read on to find out why you should still back it.
Rollie the 2D side scrolling action adventure awaits
Rollie and Lorrie are animal creatures that live in Paradise Gorge, a forest that is home to many other inhabitants. There is a governing body that is supposed to look out for the well being of the whole. Unfortunately for the creatures of Paradise Gorge, an overpopulation of snakes has seized control and is damaging the delicate ecosystem of the forest.
More than a environmental message
Rollie will feature 16 stages for you to traverse, each filled with secrets and obstacles. Rollie has some abilities you may be familiar with already such as rolling up into a ball like Sonic the Hedgehog does. You are also switch between Rollie and Lorrie on the fly – unlike the Super Mario games where Mario hogged the whole adventure.
There is also a two-player mode that is cooperative and means something. Playing cooperative mode allows you to work with your partner to complete levels and take on bosses rather than just be a mad dash to horde all the power-ups. There is actual strategy to this mode.
Not just fun controls and pretty graphics
Power-ups are often hidden in the foliage, sometimes just laying in the open, enemies can be taken down with a bop on the head, and you have that handy rolling attack at your beck and call. That is not all, you also have marbles to throw.
Rollie is shaping up to be quite an interesting release. You can check it out on Kickstarter and throw some support their way while there. They are offering digital and physical versions of the game. There is no excuse for fans of these games to not throw support at Rollie. Check out our coverage of other NES games while you wait for Rollie.
