What would gaming be without fans that take it upon themselves to do things big companies sometimes cannot? Fans rock Streets of Rage 2 hacks that add new characters to level edits of Sonic the Hedgehog. Fans keep these old games feeling new and keep gaming interesting for a lot of us old school gamers. Then there are the fans that take inspiration from a product that was never intended to be real. That is the case with this John Wick fan game.
Origins of John Wick the movie
The movie franchise starts off quite sad. John Wick loses his wife to a terminal illness, before she dies though, she gave John a puppy. Then some bad guys steal his car and to top it off, they kill the puppy. What did that puppy do to you? Well, if all the other stuff wasn’t bad enough, the puppy death pushed Wick over the edge and unleashed quite a bit of hell. I won’t ruin the rest of the franchise for you as you have the motivation for Wick and, honestly, that is all you need.
Origins of the fake NES game
This “game” was originally created by YouTube personality, Overplasma Game as a tribute. Game developer MuriloDev took the idea a little further and used the freely available assets to create a “NES-like” game. You can grab that game over on Itch.io right now, it is about 20 megs, so it is not going to kill your bandwidth to download.
According to comments so far, it seems the game defaults to a controller. If you need a controller then check out these deals on Xbox One and PlayStation 4
controllers.
What type of game does John Wick get?
Well, first, get any thoughts of Total Recall out of your head (other media outlets are bringing it up). John Wick is nothing like that Acclaim abomination, instead this is a solid Contra genre, run and gun, game. If you are a fan of run and gun games then you could definitely do worse than this John Wick game. Just remember this is not a real Nintendo NES game and let go of reality for a bit and just enjoy John Wick the game. Want more movie based fun? We have your back.
