Before you start calling Konami because someone is claiming Castlevania is coming to their console (been there, done that, made some friends), this is not an official port. Intellivania is a Castlevania-like game in development by an independent homebrew developer. It is clear by the way things are laid out that this is intended to be Castlevania for the Intellivision console.
From the introduction sequence featuring everyone’s favorite whip happy hero outside the gates of Dracula’s Castle to the iconic level design of the entry hall – Castlevania is coming to a new platform soon. The question is when, or if, Konami will step in and stop this from being finished.
According to the Intellivania thread on AtariAge, this game is completed and only requires a bit of polish now prior to release. What the developer, Skywaffle on AA, has done here is release a small demo for fans to check out and enjoy some of his progress so far.
Obviously there are some graphical differences between the original Castlevania on the Nintendo Entertainment System and this fan port to the Intellivision. For one, we lose a lot of detail but there is enough to understand what is going on. Zombies are recognizable by their color, the giant bat at the end of level one is obviously the evil boss, and Simon Belmont has his iconic weapon, the whip. What more do you need?
This lack of detail is what is so awesome about Intellivania though. Skywaffle didn’t have as much graphical power to work with as Konami did with the NES but things are still very much “Castlevania”. Sort of like how the Nintendo Game Boy versions of Castlevania were lacking in many ways besides obviously color but they still had that Castlevania look and feel to them. That is Intellivania as well.
Anyone got bets on the odds Konami comes in on this one?
