While the Atari Jaguar did not sell all that well, could have been due to competition of the time, could have been because fans simply did not care for Atari like Atari thought. No matter what the reason was, the Jaguar did not sell enough to remain a viable platform for many developers very long. With that said, it is no secret that prototypes and unreleased games are being discovered for the Atari Jaguar. One such discovery, and subsequent release, is Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story. In fact, there were two prototypes for this one made available.
Movie licensed games are often trash. Anyone that has been a gamer for very long will know this. For every good movie licensed game there is at least five, if not more, crappy movie licensed games. Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story is based on the movie of the same name where the life of Bruce Lee, known for his martial arts moves, is loosely retold. There were some creative liberties taken with the story to say the least.
Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story saw release on many platforms including the Atari Jaguar. Other platforms that saw Bruce Lee’s game included the Sega Genesis, Sega Game Gear, Sega Master System (but not the Sega CD for some reason) and the Super Nintendo. There was no PC version released of Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story which is probably for the better as action games like this didn’t do all that well on the personal computer platform during the mid-1990’s.
Now onto the prototypes. First, you are not going to be able to load these files into just any old Atari Jaguar emulator. For example, Virtual Jaguar apparently has troubles with displaying certain graphics while the Phoenix Emulator seems to run the game just fine.
If you are up for playing with emulator settings and the like then head over to Hidden Palace to grab the prototype ROM files for Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story.
