It seems that Electronic Arts is signaling a new Jade Empire title is coming. They filed a new trademark for “Jade Empire” late last month. Considering EA’s history with the title this could mean a few things. A new game is coming, another port for new platforms is coming, or they are just covering their bases securing the trademark and will do nothing with the intellectual property, because they are Electronic Arts. I don’t think it is the last one because of the classification of this trademark filing.
According to Trademarks.Justia.com, this filing is for “Entertainment services” in line with an “on-line computer game”. This leads me to believe that Electronic Arts are working on a Jade Empire MMO game of some sort.
In 2005 and 2007, we saw Jade Empire hit the Xbox console and Windows PC’s respectively. In 2016 Electronic Arts released mobile ports for Android and iOS platforms (under the name Jade Empire Special Edition). Also according to VG247.com, EA could be working on an HD remake of the original game but that does not fit the trademark filing the company filed. If they were doing a remake then the trademark filing would not single out on-line computer gaming and would not be for Entertainment services.
This leads me to believe this is going to be a Jade Empire MMO game that we will see more information on in the future.
What do you think? Do you think we will see a Jade Empire MMO game? Would you want to see an MMO based on this title? Imagine running around and performing martial arts moves in a persistent on-line world. I think it would be a misuse of the franchise for Electronic Arts to not go this route with it.
