Remakes, reboots, and general updates to games from yesteryear happen at a decent clip. We saw the remaster of the Crash Bandicoot games, Spyro the Dragon franchise
, and even Turok which hit fame on the Nintendo 64. We might see a remake of Star Wars Dark Forces sooner than later if things move forward like fans want them to.
It seems Stephen Kick, CEO of Nightdive Studios, threw out the request to remake Star Wars Dark Forces via Twitter over to Disney. The request was made with the express point that all who liked the tweet would “sign” the petition to get the remake going. Of course, on the surface this is just a publicity stunt. Even though it is by someone that certainly has the means to do a remake legally, it is still a publicity stunt that may not go anywhere.
I hope it does. There is a lot of Star Wars left to cover in games that is simply not being done.
Hey @Disney can we @NightdiveStudio do a remaster of Dark Forces, please? Signed, everyone who likes this tweet. https://t.co/y1OtA5Zppp

For those that do not know, Nightdive Studios are behind remasters of System Shock, Turok, and Forsaken – all three for modern PC’s. They have also handled ports to modern platforms such titles as Strife, Shadow Man, Bad Mojo, 7th Guest, and 11th Hour to name a few.
Star Wars Dark Forces was a Doom style game that used a 3D engine that LucasArts had created known as the Jedi Engine. The original game saw release on PlayStation and DOS/Macintosh computers.
Basically, they know what they are doing when porting and remaking titles from the past. For them to handle a remake of Star Wars Dark Forces I could confidently rest knowing it was in good hands.
If you want to see this remake of Star Wars Dark Forces happen then you should probably head over to Twitter and like the initial tweet to show your support.
