The Return of Super Pang on Nintendo Switch

Pang Adventures Nintendo Switch

Towards the end of the 80’s, a Japanese studio called Mitchell Corporation created an incredible success, a real evergreen called Super Pang that came out first in the arcades and then on PCs and home computers. A great stroke of luck for that team, one worthy of a big win on pa online casinos that, however, was never repeated by their following productions.

Moving the clock forward 30 years to the present time, Pang Adventures brings this still beloved series to Nintendo Switch for the first time. Created by the French studio DotEmu, especially known for adapting many types of retro classics on modern platforms, this new incarnation maintains the same basic rules and cooperative gameplay (of course for two players) with some variation on the theme in order to be more attractive to players of new generations.

For those who incredibly don’t know the series yet, Pang Adventures may at first glance seem like a crossbreed between other classics like Bust-A-Move, Block Breaker and Space Invaders. Alone, in a local cooperative mode or even online in this new version, we always play a young hero who is faced with a rather special kind of alien invasion. In fact, we will find a series of balls above us bouncing, exploding and dividing into smaller ones each time until their final elimination.

Some balls follow strange and unusual patterns, which require some study to decipher. Others will initially be inside buildings to be demolished with care in order not to drop too many balls towards us, a move that could prove unmanageable and consequently lethal.

With power-ups to collect and various scoring bonuses available, the guys from DotEmu have thus managed to maintain the simplicity of the original design, while increasing the variations on the theme. The level of challenge is particularly high almost from the beginning but once you pass a particularly difficult level, you will really have a great sense of gratification.

The “Tour” mode is basically the main story mode with lots of levels to overcome and several continents to explore for a duration of around 4-5 hours to be completed until the end. Added to this is the Panic mode that can be considered a kind of survival mode borrowed from first person shooters and finally we find Score, which is the largest concession to lovers of the original title. It should be noted that all the gaming modes can be played by two people: the cooperative game mode certainly delivers the best experience, even more the local one.

In conclusion, Pang Adventures, available exclusively in digital format from Nintendo eShop, brings to the hybrid Switch console the gameplay of the original game released in the late 80s, revised and corrected to be more varied, long-lived and with the possibility of playing in two even online. This title is absolutely recommended to the older gamers who spent so much money in the original coin-op, so that maybe they could introduce it to their children or grandchildren.
