I hope this is not the trend that Lizardcube will use throughout development of Streets of Rage 4. Seriously. With that out of the way, they have seemingly released an animated GIF showcasing a bit of combat animation fans can expect in Streets of Rage 4. Yes, a GIF. To their credit though, it is a very telling picture.
At first the animated picture just looks like a small part of the overall level – which appears to be a remake/revisit of the first level from the original Streets of Rage. For those that don’t remember, the store “Pine Pot” was featured in the first game closer to the boss.
And here we have the animated GIF of Streets of Rage 4 showcasing a similar area.
We’re teaming up with @Guard_Crush and @Lizardcube to combo-clean the Streets of Rage. Check this out. #SOR4 https://t.co/QJRfMF5UDt pic.twitter.com/eqw5EH7PkD

Next, there appears to be three to five layers of scrolling on display in Streets of Rage 4. Parallax scrolling was something used sparingly in the 16-bit brawlers. It is a small detail but a neat one as it adds a bit of depth to the battles.
I know, parallax scrolling is not something to get super excited about so let’s end this with something you may have missed after watching that animated GIF.
The combo system in place.
Particularly, the juggling of the enemy that is on display.
Axel starts the juggle with a jumping kick, Blaze continues it with a flipping kick so that Axel can flame punch the enemy back at Blaze. Finally, Blaze ends it with a another special attack for a visually impressive series of moves.
If Lizardcube can keep the game that interesting as it develops then I am sure we are going to be seeing a lot of Twitch live streams of multiplayer games showcasing various combos and other action.
Don’t get me wrong here, I am very excited for Streets of Rage 4, I am a huge fan of brawlers like this.
