I cover a lot of unofficial, okay they are illegal at their core, ports of popular games to other platforms the owners never supported. Sometimes though, I get a chance to cover an official port, as is the case with Farming Simulator for the Commodore 64. For those that do not know, Farming Simulator is a popular farming simulation game that has hit most of the modern platforms available. Now, it is going to hit the classic Commodore 64 – something I never thought would happen.
There are some hardware limitations to speak of before you get too excited over Farming Simulator for the Commodore 64. First, there are only two vehicles on screen at a time. Considering the age of the platform it is to be expected that there are some limitations here. That is the main limitation other than the obvious lower graphic resolution and diminished colors. I am only mentioning those things because we have new retro gaming fans every day and they may be new to the Commodore 64 scene.
Your first opportunity to grab a copy of Farming Simulator will come with Farming Simulator 19 – PC Collector’s Edition. Included in the box will be a separate CD with a disk image of Farming Simulator for the Commodore 64. Fans can transfer this image to a 5 1/4 inch floppy and play it on their legit Commodore 64, they can also put this image to the C64 Mini and play it there.
If you want to read up on how Farming Simulator for the C64 came to be, head over to Indie Retro News.
At a later date Giants Software plans on releasing Farming Simulator for the Commodore 64 in physical format. In the YouTube video embedded above we see the game on a C64 cartridge.
