Fans of the Double Dragon franchise will remember the 16-bit entry on the Super Nintendo, Super Double Dragon. While that game was great, the Japanese version featured many things North American gamers missed out on. Well, that is about to change, or at least North American gamers will be given the chance to change it. Return of Double Dragon on the Super Nintendo. Why is this so important?
What is different versus the version we know and love?
Mainly new moves unique to each character, many not seen in the NA version, over 30 special moves, new arranged music, additional stages, and two player modes allowing a second player to join at any point.
Okay, of that bit of text, the things that should stand out are the additional stages and unique moves. Too often these types of re-releases don’t offer much for fans of the original version to part with cold hard cash.
Take the Mega Man re-releases coming, or the Street Fighter II one before that. There was nothing “new” about them.
Here, Retroism is working to go the extra mile to make Return of Double Dragon a must buy for fans as well as completist collectors.
I can appreciate that, even though I will not be participating in this release of the game (I no longer have the hardware to play it).
If they make a digital version available, either direct purchase of the ROM or release via Steam or GoG.com then I will support them with a purchase.
This is an officially licensed product and will feature a full English translation. That is why I must bring up the line I use often – we must support those that support our fun (or something similar). Basically, if we want more releases like this then we must support those doing it.
Buy legit games and support companies like Retroism so that we can get more cool, official, stuff. Secure your copy with Amazon pre-order Return of Double Dragon.
