If you are new to Retro Gaming Magazine then you probably missed out on earlier Xenocider coverage. This is a new game from Retro Sumus that might resemble a 128-bit Space Harrier set in a different futuristic world. Recently we found out that Retro Sumus have released a new picture of Xenocider making use of a new addition. The hoverboard and sidepod accessories.
If you are not interested in Xenocider then I am not sure why you are reading this. For those of us that are interested, there are some big updates being shown in this picture.
The hoverboard is cool as previously Xara was on foot – much like Sega’s classic arcade game, Space Harrier. Will this be used in faster paced sections? Does this mean there is going to be checkpoint style levels like Outrun or other arcade games?
Some more tests with Xara’s new hoverboard… and sidepods.#ScreenshotSaturday #Xenocider #WeAreRetro pic.twitter.com/dVvZ3UsWrz

The sidepods remind me of the classic 2D shooters like R-Type and Last Resort (man why did no one ever port that to the home consoles?). Little upgrades like these sidepods can change the gameplay significantly. Anyone that has enjoyed a scrolling shooter that offered little helpers can tell you that.
