Considering E3 2018 is just around the corner it is time to start the speculating. Thanks to the exhibitor details for Konami being made available, we have one juicy detail to focus on. A compilations release is mentioned for PlayStation 3, 4, PS4 Pro, Nintendo Switch, Android, iPhone, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox One X. Considering actions by Konami in the last few years, I am going all in on this being a Turbo Grafx-16 compilation.
How I came to this conclusion:
Way back in late 2016, Konami filed for a trademark for “TurboGrafx” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Konami also owns the rights to Hudson Soft’s library of games, including Bonk, Bomberman, and Adventure Island to name a few.
Considering the platforms listed for the “Compilations” release is all modern, even going back to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, it is almost common sense to believe that this is going to be a Turbo Grafx-16 compilation.
The other option is that it could be a Castlevania compilation due to the popularity of the Netflix animated miniseries.
I don’t believe it will be a Castlevania compilation though. While that would be cool, it just wouldn’t fit considering the, admittedly loosely linked, evidence available.
Konami is one of those companies that will do it if it is easy and cheap along with possibly good returns. They have not done a lot with their ownership of Hudson Soft IP’s other than a Bomberman game on Nintendo Switch.
That is why I think it is more likely that Konami is finally preparing to start earning off that Hudson Soft purchase.
It seems that Konami also took possession of the Turbo Grafx-16 name somehow – probably through the acquisition of Hudson Soft and their previous partnership with NEC.
Now which games do you think we will see in the compilation?
