Billy Mitchell has found himself in the news again. This time due to his being stripped of all high-scores in the Twin Galaxies database. Not just the scores for Donkey Kong, but also scores he set for other retro games such as Pac-Man.
At the 2018 Midwest Gaming Classic in Milwaukee Wisconsin, Mr. Mitchell addressed the Internet in a video released on YouTube. Mr. Mitchell is on the advisory board for Old School Gamer Magazine and
The key parts from the video are:
Mr. Mitchell vows to provide proof of his scores being legit.
Mr. Mitchell claims to have done everything according to the rules and has proof to back this claim up.
Mr. Mitchell claims nothing will be withheld.
This should answer the naysayers asking why Mr. Mitchell did not provide this proof during the inquiry and investigations that Twin Galaxies used to warrant removing Mr. Mitchell from their database.
Mr. Mitchell has been a lightening rod of controversy for years, even before his starring role in the movie, King of Kong. Many that have seen that movie may remember that a lot of strange happenings were going on – including Mr. Mitchell avoiding playing Mr. Wiebe in person. Instead of a live play showcasing Mr. Mitchell’s abilities (where else would be better than a movie centering on him?) he submitted a rather dubious looking tape of his high score achievement. Mr. Wiebe was denied a chance to view any of that tape, furthering the weirdness of the situation.
Steve Wiebe has responded in an exclusive interview with Variety.com –
“The more I thought about it from the ‘King of Kong’ days, it all seemed to make sense now,” Wiebe said. “All the things that were happening at the time… like why he didn’t come out and play me, and why he was inciting whose records were going to be authenticated and who’s were going to be dropped. ‘King of Kong’ referenced that that he was a referee and on the board of directors. When that leaked out, it started to make more sense.”
Those that have watched King of Kong may remember Mr. Wiebe went through many hoops to be at the event featured in the film.
In 2014 Jace Hall came into ownership of Twin Galaxies from former owner Walter Day. The viewing of Mr. Mitchell’s 1,047,200 score on Donkey Kong tape was stated to have been “helpful” by Mr. Hall in deciding how to handle the high score situation regarding Mr. Mitchell.
That high score tape was covered in one of my earlier articles, and is the one that Mr. Wiebe was denied access to in the movie.
As it stands right now, Mr. Mitchell has been removed from the Twin Galaxies score board and is barred from submitting scores in the future.

Give it up, Billy. No one with any integrity believes you. You have become Eddie Plant.
Don’t you have some chicken wings to dip in BBQ sauce, Mitchell? Nobody cares about you any more, you cheating mullet-wearing egotistical narcissistic loser.
There’s nothing more lame than someone going to such lengths to prove themselves when there’s literally so little to lose. I’d say “get a life” but you’ve already wasted the bulk of yours in a lot of pointless lies, apparently. I’m sure your kids are so proud.
