On the fourth day of Christmas my true love sent to me, four colly birds.
There seems to be a great debate on whether or the not the lyric actually is “Colly Birds” or “Calling Birds”. I am going to go with colly birds for the purposes of this entry. Initially, I was going to interpret the word colly as collie and recommend Petz: Dogz 2. I admit it, I spent a little too much time with this game (and Harvest Moon) during a very confusing time in my life. Between trying to get Muffy to marry me and teaching my border collie, Princess Prin Prin, to learn to roll over, a day in the life of this gamer was not such an easy game to play. But thankfully, once again, music brought me to my senses and I chose to go with colly bird which literally translates to blackbird. And so, ladies and gentlemen, The Beatles: Rock Band.
There isn’t much to say about this type of game. The genius is really in the simplicity of appealing to two natural drives we all have. The need for the joy and comfort good music brings to our psyche and the want of being in a rock and roll band. To tell the truth, I was always more of a Stones fan than The Beatles but when presented with the opportunity to strap on a genuine plastic replica of a Rickenbacker 325 and sing along with the lads to “Paperback Writer”, I know Keef will forgive my lapse in loyalty.
The game comes packed with 45 tracks from 12 different albums and a beautifully animated intro. Strike up the band!
