It is a mainstay for Nintendo when they launch a new console or handheld. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe just continues the kart racing, friendship destroying, fun we know and love. Here we have updated information on the Nintendo Switch game and even a new video after the jump.
First, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is apparently going to feature up to 12 player simultaneous play via online connectivity. If you prefer local opponents–you know, so you can talk trash and see their face–then you can experience up to eight player local wireless multiplayer. You are either the trash talker or the loser in the Mario Kart series.
Remember, the Nintendo Online Services will be free until Fall 2017 so get in on the free ride while you can
There will be over 40 characters to race with and over 40 courses to do it. Also, there will be over 20 items to use on your opponents or improve your chances of winning the race. For those that prefer just battling it out instead of racing a track there will be five new battle modes available in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe–perfect for settling the score without the hassle of racing.
For those that are new to the series, or possibly the younger player, there is a new “Smart Steering” mode available. This will help keep you on the track and racing around rather than watching in horror as your kart falls away to oblivion and you must watch the reviving animation over and over.
Nintendo knows what they are doing with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and their online service. They are giving fans access to the online service till later in 2017, and making sure party games that carry a universal appeal like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe release during that free period. This gives gamers time to get addicted to playing online, maybe to the point that they don’t mind dropping a few bucks a month for the privilege to do so.
