Classic Brawlers, Iron Commando and Legend, Get IndieGoGo Campaign

Iron Commando Piko Interactive Super Nintendo

Anyone that has read my work, at least gaming stuff, for any length of time knows I am a huge fan of scrolling brawlers. Games like Streets of Rage, Final Fight, etc. Those are my “go to games”. I recently found out that Piko Interactive have launched a new IndieGoGo campaign for two of their titles, Legend and Iron Commando for the Super Nintendo and Super Famicom. If you are unfamiliar with these titles, they are brawlers and I am happy again.

About Legend – Originally released in 1994 for the Super Nintendo, Legend is a fantasy based brawler. There is an evil dictator type guy and you are not happy about it. You have the means to do something about it and that is what you are going to do. Graphically, this is one of the more interesting brawlers on 16-Bit. For those that think this is just a Golden Axe rip-off, this is about as close as Streets of Rage is to Final Fight – same genre but handled differently.

Iron Commando is a more modern style brawler with a setting that has a strong 20’s and 30’s feel – the age of the mobster. That is the best way I can describe the graphics to someone who has never seen Iron Commando. To say this game is in a category all its own is an understatement (why have we not seen more mobster style brawlers?). Another thing about Iron Commando is, Piko Interactive are the first to bring this brawler to North American gamers legally. Much respect for that.

What is cool about these releases is that they are wholly owned by Piko Interactive so they will be kept alive and well on modern platforms (Capcom, Konami, can you guys take notes here?). Also, the carts are fully assembled, by hand where possible, here in the United States (no worries on that 30+% import tax Trump is planning).

Check out their IndieGoGo page for more information, drop a pledge and let them know you read about it here on Retro Gaming Magazine.
