Many, including myself await Yooka Laylee from Playtonic Games. It was successfully kickstarted and will be available on many platforms including PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
The actual game is due for release in about two weeks time and is looking absolutely amazing. Then again, this is the team that worked majorly on Banjo Kazooie, and it even sent out a playbox to various backers of the campaign. However, it seems that Playtonic received a cartridge from Dieter von Laser (@DvonLaser on Twitter) which shows a version of Yooka Laylee which was written for SNES.
As the video from them shows, it definitely has some of the sprites and dialogue. However, the demo does not show us much more beyond that. Playtonic and Dieter have not announced how much of the game is playable or if it’s just a level or a complete game. However, it does prove that people are still creating stuff for the SNES and that this stuff can be quite current.
Hopefully, further information will be revealed in time. Also as the full game gets released by Playtronic Games. Dieter may actually be able to produce something complete for release. If any further information is revealed, I will come back to this.
