If anyone remembers Wonder Boy III: Monster World on the Sega Genesis, then you are in for a treat. It was known as Wonder Boy III: The Dragons Trap on Sega Master System and Sega Game Gear, but due to such machines fading at the time, sales probably were not as good as they should have been.
It seems that Lizardcube has got together with DotEmu to release a complete HD remake for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. DotEmu have many arcade releases to their names, but mainly on mobile platforms such as their IREM releases of R-Type, R-Type II, and much more to both Android and iOS platforms.
The remake has been previously reported on RGM by our very own Carl Williams, due to them blogging their Developer Diary online. The game has a very cartoon style aesthetic and looks simply amazing, but you can play in the old 8-bit style if you want. Gameplay looks amazingly fluid and, for what it’s worth, looks like an amazing remake. I admit I have not played the original version (please don’t kill me) but, upon seeing the screenshots, it compels me to investigate further.
The release date is set for April 18, 2017 as their website and Facebook has just announced (found at http://www.dragonstrap.com and https://www.facebook.com/TheDragonsTrap/ respectively). As of yet, no price has been announced, but it certainly looks like one to invest in if you are a fan of the original game.
