Glory of Heracles is a role-playing game series developed by Data East that spans across four games from 1987-1994 and was released across two gaming consoles, the Famicom and Super Famicom. With the Famicom name mentioned there, you would be correct in assuming that the games were not released outside of Japan. However, thanks to the hard work of Translation Corporation, Heracles no Eikou IV: Kamigami Kara no Okurimono (translated as The Glory of Heracles IV: Gift from the Gods) has been given a full English translation for the Super Nintendo, completing the translation of the four games.
For anyone unfamiliar with The Glory of Heracles IV, it is based around classic lore such as Greek mythology, Pandora’s box, and eternal life. Described as having similarities to Dragon Quest, the game has been stated as having deeper gameplay and story. While Heracles is the titular character, the game features an ensemble cast of characters, with the main plot following the player and his companions, Plato and Epipha, as they investigate a mysterious occurrence on Atlantis.
The translation was completed by nanashi who also worked on the translation for Glory of Heracles III. The game went through 200 submenu translation and adjustments, “full uncompromised” dialog, and sliding menus. With the release of the translated The Glory of Heracles IV on the Super Nintendo, this now completes the English translation of all four Glory of Heracles games.
The archive includes several options to patch the game’s ROM file. The custom patcher should automatically patch the ROM correctly. Head over to ROMHacking.net to grab the patch file.
