Sony Re-Entering Mobile Gaming Market with Select Playstation Releases

When Sony dropped their mobile strategy last Summer it was mostly an “eh” moment, at least for me. I am a true retrogaming fan: I have physical copies of most of the games they offered, although nothing staggeringly expensive from eBay. Now Sony is apparently making a return to the mobile gaming market with select PlayStation titles.

The PlayStation Mobile platform was closed last Summer and I am sure there were at least a few fans that missed it. The idea was to bring PlayStation games to mobile devices, particularly the Sony Xperia Play Android cell phone. Things didn’t really take off all that well for the PlayStation Mobile Platform so not many games were released on the service.

The current list of PlayStation titles that are planned for release include:

Arc the Lad
Between Sky and Sea
Everybody’s Golf
Night Time
PaRappa the Rappa
Summer Holiday 20th Century
Wild Arms

As you can see, there are a few interesting choices here. For me, I am interested in Wild Arms–loved it back in the day–Disgaea and Arc the Lad. The rest I am “eh” about. Now, if Sony is able to swing some interesting deals such as releasing Resident Evil games, Final Fantasy and other big name titles on their new service, it may take off. That is a big if, though.

It is unknown at this time if this is just a continuation of their March 2016 announcement that stated the company was planning to re-enter the mobile gaming market. This announcement mentioned utilizing existing PlayStation properties in new game releases. Maybe we will see a new mini game focused Ape Escape or possibly a new Parappa the Rappa game on Android and iOS. Someday.

Are you excited for the upcoming PlayStation games on Android and iOS?
