The story of Xenocider is kind of messed up. You see, this is a brand new, original game for the Sega Dreamcast and it failed at their Kickstarter campaign. Not enough people showed up to support it and we saw it fall to the wayside for a bit. That has not stopped Retrosumus, the developer behind Xenocider, from continuing forward with development – just now it is at a slower pace than if their crowdfunding efforts would have been successful. Today we see a new update featuring a new level and it is running on the Sega Dreamcast. A real Dreamcast, not an emulator or dev box of any kind. Retail hardware that you and me have hooked up right now.
If you have never heard of Xenocider before then you are in for a treat. This is a game that pulls inspiration from the classics such as Space Harrier. The really cool thing is, it is for the Sega Dreamcast console – a console that was dropped by Sega rather quickly.
This new level for Xenocider is an underwater level that may seem slightly familiar to anyone that has been following development closely. Previous builds had this level listed as the “Atlantean Reserve”.
Also, Retrosumus have updated their pre-order options for Xenocider. Previously you could only pre-order via PayPal, which caused Retrosumus quite a few headaches (as PayPal often does). Now, via the secure processing service, Redsys fans can place their name on the pre-order list using a credit card. This will help Retrosumus plan their release better based on the pre-orders that are made. If you are planning on pre-ordering you may want to hurry and do it.
New Sega Dreamcast games that are made to this caliber are rare and far between. If you are hankering for a new experience and love Space Harrier you will be sorry to miss out on Xenocider.
Check out the rest of the update on Retrosumus website and place a pre-order while there.
