Okay, this is one of those games that I followed in the pages of gaming magazines every month. Blood Omen – Legacy of Kain was THE game for fans of the “dark” side of gaming. Sure, Gamefan overplayed the game quite a bit with each multi-page spread they did for it. They did that for almost every game, regardless of quality. Still, this was one of those games that was obviously not one that Nintendo would approve of. Good thing this was on the Playstation console. Crystal Dynamics were right to pick up this vampire tale and publish it. They also released it at the perfect time of year.
Blood Omen featured a dark story
Seeking revenge as a resurrected vampire named Kain, players partake in the action from an overhead point of view. Kain was unjustly murdered and cursed and now he seeks revenge for both of those life changing events. The world of Nosgoth is open to you in your quest. The Circle of Nine, a group of super powerful sorcerers, will pay the ultimate price for their offenses against Kain.
You may, or may not, be surprise to know that Silicon Knights developed Blood Omen – Legacy of Kain. This is the company that later went on to create Eternal Darkness for Nintendo on the Gamecube console. This was one of their earliest games that were games “adults would want to play.”
Legend of Zelda but dark
The underlying game in Blood Omen – Legacy of Kain is all action role playing. Think Legend of Zelda if it had the equivalent of a mature rating (yeah, that will happen right after Mario earns one). You must travel the land, traverse dungeons and more, annihilate your enemies along the way and collect cool stuff. Oh yeah, you drink plenty of blood along the way.
Blood Omen – Legacy of Kain is a unique title and one that more gamers really need to experience. Thankfully eBay and Amazon have it in stock right now.
