Sega is a unique company. Rather than being like Nintendo and going after the fans that create games using Sega characters, Sega works with a lot of them. Weird. Anyhow, some fans have released the latest trailer for a 3D Sonic the Hedgehog game- Green Hill Paradise Act 2. This is amazing and it is all 100% fan created.
First, this trailer shows off how fast the fan engine is and it is fast. This is what Sonic Adventure probably should have been- if it had been maybe Sega would have sold enough Dreamcasts to stay afloat back in the early 2000’s. That is nostalgia speaking but well, that is what we are all about here at Retro Gaming Magazine.
While this is not a full game, yet, what is shown off in this fan version of Sonic the Hedgehog is amazing. There are tons of areas, secrets and superfast gameplay to deal with. This is vintage Sonic the Hedghog, just in 3D. Hit that speed thrust and literally fly- check the video out for a good idea of how high and fast Sonic can get.
Unlike official Hedgehog games, Green Hill Paradise Act 2 just brings along a sense of openness to it. The official games were much more straight forward and you were mostly lead along the level to an endpoint. This Sonic fan game is just wide open and full of speed – just like Sonic should be allowed to do. Roam around at high speed and take jumps at breakneck speeds.
While Sega has been cool with independent developers using their characters in fan games, it is still unclear how Sega will react when those fan games are better than the official ones. Sega could possibly drop a cease and desist on this one so grab that download while you can.
