It has not been a full week or so since the Sega Saturn BIOS was compromised and we are already starting to see homebrew/independent developer’s show off new games. One of those new games is Project Blaze by Titan Game Studios. Fans of 2D side scrolling action platform titles will want to start paying attention. The Sega Saturn is about to start throwing down the gauntlet and it is going to be a wild ride.
Project Blaze is still quite early in development but it is already showing promise. What is being shown off is just past being a tech demo for the final game development. Sprites and audio are all subject to change but what is there is looking great already.
Currently sitting at version 0.1.2, Project Blaze already features smooth scrolling, jumping animation, walking animation and a well animated hero and enemy. These are all placeholders for the continued development. The final game will probably not be called Project Blaze and will probably have very little in common with this tech demo they are currently showing off. That is fine by me because if this is where they are starting, it can only get better.
What is cool about Project Blaze and Titan Game Studios is they are not resting on their laurels. The final game will be ported to many platforms, including Sega CD, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, Android and iPhone. They definitely know their retro gaming consoles.
We have seen a plethora of homebrew/independent games developed for the Sega Dreamcast and Android/iPhone is nearly nothing but. It is interesting to see the Sega Saturn getting some love.
I will keep you updated on the development of Project Blaze as it is made public. For now, hit up Ebay for your Sega console needs and get ready for Project Blaze- ti is going to rock.
