Are you sitting on a goldmine of rare and valuable Nintendo games? Video games are fast becoming the valuable antiques of the future. Read on for the top ten valuable SNES games that sold on ebay recently.
Forget investing in stocks & shares or cases of wine, hoping that they’ll increase in value enough for you to retire. Videogames could be the new investment opportunity to add to your portfolio. But which games to invest in and what to look out for? Ideally the game will be factory sealed, showing it has never been opened and used.
Here’s the current top ten SNES games based on recent worldwide sales on ebay:
- Donkey Kong Country Competition £2097
- Battleclash £1800
- Exertainment Mountain Bike Rally and Speed Racer £1580
- Earthbound £1058
- M.A.C.S. Multipurpose Arcade Combat Simulator £1066
- Starfox Super Weekend Competition £871
- King of Dragons £871
- Pocky & Rocky £779
- Hagane The Final Conflict £791
- Donkey Kong Country 2 £700
Note that 2 of these are Competition cartridges. These were only made in small amounts so are rare and hard to find, which is why they can command such high prices. According to MarioWiki The Donkey Kong Country Competition cartridge is a cut-down version used in Powerfest ’94 and World Video Game Championships II. Whilst the Starfox Super Weekend Competition cartridge featured special time-limited stages and a special bonus level (see wikipedia for more details)
Don’t have the game cart anymore, just the box? No worries! That box could be a rare alternate printing worth money on it’s own, just like the Zombies Ate My Neighbors Rare Alternate Box Variant, Mexico which recently sold on ebay for over £900
If you’re looking to buy a rare game on ebay that seems to be a steal, just remember to check the postage costs. This copy of FIFA 15 on 3DS seems reasonable for £15, but the postage costs a staggering £2561.
Has this got you rummaging through your old game collections in the hope of finding gold? Or perhaps you’ve already made a killing selling a rare game you picked up for peanuts a few years ago? Good hunting and let us know how you did in the comments.
