In an era long since passed there was a series of movies with the name 3 Ninjas which were very corny. 3 Ninjas had 3 sequels and they would each earn less money than the previous iteration. This was until 1998 when 3 Ninjas: High Noon at Mega Mountain released to put the final nail in the coffin which was this aberration of a series. But, to the surprise of many 3 Ninjas had a video game released for the SNES on June 19th of 1994. The game titled after the sequel of the movie was called 3 Ninjas Kick Back and unlike the film which was a modest success this game was a terrible flop.
A platforming adventure 3 Ninjas Kick Back was a very generic game. But, it did have some pretty interesting features. You could play as any of the main characters in the movie specifically Colt, Rocky, and Tum Tum. They each carried a unique weapon with different advantages/disadvantages. But, continuing the trend of generic platformers you could fight enemies like bats and dogs or random people who worked for the bad guy of the story Koga.
The game followed the source material rather closely. In the movies the audience was expected to believe that 3 very young boys could realistically fight men much larger and better trained than themselves. The dagger plotline in which the grandfather and a dagger had to be retrieved was present and even though the events were different at least the developers tried their best to incorporate it into 3 Ninjas Kick Back (the game). Obviously audiences could only willingly suspend their disbelief until the movies became too ridiculous to accept any longer.
If I can praise one thing about the game it would be that there was a co-op multiplayer mode. It worked out well and it was actually fun having someone to play alongside the player. It made 3NKB much easier and bearable. But, then again multiplayer mode tends to make most game a lot more fun and 3 Ninjas Kick back was no exception.
