Zelda Breath of the Wild Taps Monolith Soft Developer

Nintendo has a track record of working with outside developers REALLY closely.  Sure, they have their own in house development teams but that doesn’t mean that Nintendo is scared to share resources and the work load with trust 2nd party developers.  They did this with Rare for instance and even bought that development house and, of course, eventually sold it to Microsoft.  Anyhow, Monolith Soft have been revealed to be working on Zelda Breath of the Wild for the Nintendo Wii U and NX consoles.

During an interview at E3 Shigeru Miyamoto told Game Informer Magazine, “Yes they are involved in this Zelda. People from Tokyo and Kyoto are working together on this. There is a team of over 100 helping work on this project, and their work has really been helpful.”

Nintendo has earned a reputation, of sorts, for taking the visual style of Zelda in new directions with certain releases.  They did this with Legend of Zelda Wind Waker on the Nintendo Gamecube.  When it was released a lot of people complained about the cell shaded graphics.  In recent years a lot of fans have come around to that style and actually enjoy it.  Why am I bringing that up?

Watercolor world.

Nintendo has apparently chosen a watercolor style graphic effect.  Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild is going to either be loved or hated based on the graphic style.  Sad but that is the world we game in.

According to those that were able to play Legend of Zelda there is a lot of new stuff.  Apptrigger has brought up the fact that you can climb nearly EVERYTHING in the demo.  Trees, cliffs, ruins, rocks, etc.  This is interesting because that reminds me of a Playstation 2 title, Shadow of the Colossus, which featured similar mechanics but HUGE enemies.  I wonder if there will be huge bosses to take on in similar fashion.

More on Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild as we have it.
